| About the Community Center |
In 2004, a small group of community oriented citizens had a dream of turning the old grade school into a vital activity building for the community.
After nearly a year of campaigning for funds more than $116,000 had been raised in donations and pledges from the city, local businesses and individuals.
School District 49 accepted a bid or $40,000 for the school and the building officially changed hands in March 2005.
The five Charter Board Members included: President Robert Miller, Jr., Vice President William R. Barrett, Secretary Pam Sabo and Co-Treasurers Richard Harris and Chris Frerker.
The center opens its doors every morning to citizens wishing to utilize the gym as an indoor walking area.
Other activities offered by the center include hosting a Co-Ed Volleyball League, Christian Youth Concerts, Kids' Used Toy Sales and a Halloween Bash.
Flea markets and catered dinners with entertainment are held on a monthly basis serving as crucial fund raisers for the center.
